What Is The Gospel?

"Now after John was arrested, Jesus came into Galilee, proclaiming the gospel of God, and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.” Mark 1:14-15

So, what does Gospel even mean? “Gospel” in Greek is the word, euaggelion. It is translated as “good news” and is the same as the word, euaggelizo. This is translated in English as “preach good tidings”. The Gospel is the good news that is meant to be evangelized throughout the world and we, as followers of Christ, are meant to share it with those who don’t know Him.

You may have heard the Gospel described as “The Good News”. It is in fact good news, actually, it’s great news! However, let’s never forget that you cannot have good news without the bad news. You cannot deeply appreciate or truly value the good news unless you fully understand the bad news.

The Bad News

We are rebels by our very nature.

We rebel against people, rules, the truth, the Word of God, and God himself. We live in total depravity and sin because of our rebelliousness. Romans 1 talks about God’s wrath on the unrighteous. Satan has been given the right to pursue you, harass you, and harm you. Knowing your place, knowing Satan’s place, and understanding God’s purpose is vital when trying to comprehend the pure Gospel of Jesus Christ. You are entrapped in a prison of condemnation, a cold, dark prison because of your sin and the temptation to sin. The enemy wants to keep you there, he wants to torment you and enjoys doing it.

“For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth.” Romans 1:18

The Good News

Christ, He is your deliverer! He has redeemed you and rescued you from this horrible prison, the door to the prison cell has been unlocked by Christ, by His blood and death on the cross you have been set free.

You still remain in that prison cell. You praise Him, love Him, and rejoice in what He has done for you, but you are not aware of the open door because you are blinded by your sin and deception. You have been freed because Christ has forgiven you of your sin and trespasses, forgiveness is the open door. All you have to do is repent, turn away from your sin, and fully accept that Christ chose you. He has chosen to free you because of His sacrificial death on the cross. So embrace Christ and walk out of that prison cell!

Ephesians 2:1-10 tells us that receiving the grace that God has given you is not your own doing, but the work of the Lord. It is only by Sola Fide – faith alone that Christ has predestined you to be chosen by Him and to spend all of eternity with Him. You cannot do anything in your power to receive salvation, that would limit God’s power and Christ’s atonement.

“And you were dead in the trespasses and sins in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience— among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind. But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace, you have been saved—
and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” ‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭2:1-10

He loves you, He chose you to fulfill His purpose for His ultimate glory.

But the Gospel doesn’t end there, He calls us to obey Him. He demands that we serve Him and follow His commands. One of those commands is to GO! Go out into the world and preach the Gospel to others as it says in Acts 13:47.

“For so the Lord has commanded us, saying, “‘I have made you a light for the Gentiles, that you may bring salvation to the ends of the earth.’” Acts 13:47

We as women of God are
Christ’s representative.

In humble submission and obedience to Him, we are called to return to that prison cell and rescue His lost, but chosen people. They need to know about His love and His truth, He has chosen you to bring them out of the darkness and into His marvelous light so that they can also experience the freedom that you have in Christ.

Remember, you’re a rebel, but so are they. Those entrapped in their sin are ravenous. They revel in their sin, they enjoy the indulgence of actively sinning against God. You did as well when you were in their place. They may be hostile, grieving, confused. Embrace them in a love so deep that you protect them with your words and not hurt them. Diligently pray and ask that the Lord soften your heart to their anger and pain, ask Him to provide you with the humility that is needed so that you are able to extend grace to them where they are at in their life.

Some will reject the truth and love that you bring. They will greet you with hostility, they will destroy you, persecute you, they will resist you, they will kill you. But, you still say yes to Christ. You GO because He has delivered you from your destruction, He has redeemed you with His sovereignty. You have full comprehension that Christ shed His blood for you, so you gladly shed your blood for Him.

Is your life really yours to spend?

Ask yourself and critically think, is your life really yours to spend? Knowing that Jesus came down from Heaven, intentionally lived a sinless and perfect life – even after being tempted and tried by Satan in the desert, using scripture for the basis of his argument to try and reel Jesus into a trap of sin for it is written in Matthew 4:1-11.

“Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. And after fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. And the tempter came and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, command these stones to become loaves of bread.” But he answered, “It is written, “‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’” Then the devil took him to the holy city and set him on the pinnacle of the temple and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down, for it is written, “‘He will command his angels concerning you,’ and “‘On their hands they will bear you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone.’” Jesus said to him, “Again it is written, ‘You shall not put the Lord your God to the test.’” Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. And he said to him, “All these I will give you, if you will fall down and worship me.” Then Jesus said to him, “Be gone, Satan! For it is written, “‘You shall worship the Lord your God and him only shall you serve.’” Then the devil left him, and behold, angels came and were ministering to him.” ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭4:1-11

How are you spending your life that was purchased through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ? You are not just the problem or the penalty, you are the great commission. You are bonded to Christ through a covenant, your covenant covers your invitation and your adoption through Him. Through His mercy and grace to save you, your love in return is faithfulness, obedience, and submission. With that heart and mindset, you will desperately yearn to be taken and used for His will, His glory to represent Him as His advocate as a follower of Jesus Christ. This is a privilege, it is an honor to be chosen for this specific purpose.

Do you realize what this all means? You have been designed and created in His image to bear His name, you represent His reputation. Is your time spent conveying the pure Gospel of Jesus Christ through your conduct? How do you think, believe, feel, act or react through various situations and trials in your life?

GO! Represent Christ and do it well. Go back to that prison cell and rescue the lost, unashamed to be His witness and share the Gospel with those who desperately need to hear it. Remember though, your conduct will oftentimes speak much louder than your words. It is through our actions that the lost will see your consistency, your love for the Lord and for His people.

Quench their curiosity by revealing to them the power of Jesus and the mighty work that He has done in you. The perfect and spotless lamb of God that was worthy was slain, Isaiah 53:6 says “the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all”. God turned His face away from His one and only Son, Jesus Christ. God never stopped loving Him. However, Jesus was separated from His love because he was the atoning sacrifice (propitiation) for our sins. 1 John 2:2

“He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world.” 1 John 2:2

As a predestined follower of Christ, you will never experience God turning His face from you. Christ bore all of your sins, transgressions, fears, sadness, guilt, brokenness, and much, much more on that cross. Not only did He experience all of that for you, but He also experienced moments of being completely alone. That is something that even on your worst day of isolation, you will never, ever encounter.

With all of this to say, He knew you would GO. He knows you will share with others the Good News, but He also knows that it is going to be impossible. The world cannot handle this truth, it is not able to be rationalized because it is so counterintuitive in today’s culture. You cannot do this in your own strength, if you try you will absolutely fail. We are fully dependent on our Savior, our Heavenly Father.

The caveat, you will not fail. You will be victorious because that is who He has called you to be in Him, by Him, through Him all for His splendorous glory. You are the daughter of the King, and heir to the throne.

Upon your surrender and obedience to Him, your body, mind, and spirit are His. He will turn your heart of stone into a heart of flesh.

“And I will give them one heart, and a new spirit I will put within them. I will remove the heart of stone from their flesh and give them a heart of flesh,” Ezekiel 11:19

Your eyes will see what He sees, your ears will hear what He hears. Your lips will flow like honey with His sweet, sweet words. Your burdens will become what He cares about, not of worldly things or desires. Your prayers are His prayers, your attitude and behavior every single day will be the very behavior of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

So, when will Christ take over your life?

You are His lost sheep. When one lost sheep leaves the flock, He leaves the flock and adamantly pursues you.

“What do you think? If a man has a hundred sheep, and one of them has gone astray, does he not leave the ninety-nine on the mountains and go in search of the one that went astray?” Matthew 18:12

You will enter the world as little lambs, but you will have the spirit of a lion. “The wicked flee when no one pursues, but the righteous are bold as a lion.” Proverbs 28:1

The spirit of God is actively living and breathing inside of you as you go back to that prison cell to rescue the others. As they close in to attack you, you can faithfully depend on your confidence and security in Jesus and you will not back down.

This is the greatest spiritual battle that you will ever face. Be the warrior that God has called you to be, put on the armor of God daily. Armor of God.  Live out the fruits of the spirit in your life and apply them to every situation and you will win this battle.

THIS ↑ is the pure Gospel of Jesus Christ. It annihilates and blows every lie, every false teaching, every false god, every idol out of the water. It demonstrates to the world that Christ has absolute power and is in total control. Even though we are physically weak, that is by God’s amazing design. For it is by our weakness that He is glorified. 2 Corinthians 12:9.

“But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.” 2 Corinthians 12:9

You are spiritually strong. “Greater He who is in us than he who is in this world.” 1 John 4:4

“Little children, you are from God and have overcome them, for he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.” 1 John 4:4

Rejoice in this Good News! You will not find this certainty or comfort in the world. The greatest thing ever has taken place in your life and you had absolutely nothing to do with it. You had no control, you didn’t plan it. You were predestined before the foundation of the world to be with Christ. Before Christ went to the cross to die for your sins, He intimately knew that He chose to die for you.

Abide in Christ, hide His Word in your heart, and do not depart from it. You are a victorious daughter of the one true King, pray that God will fill you with His love and His heart so that you can adequately love His people. Spend your life pursuing, honoring, and glorifying the Lord and His sacrifice will be worth the cost.
